The Mint Hotel and Casino in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada are renowned for being the site of Hunter S. Thompson’s classic novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas – which immortalized his first night there during a legendary 1971 weekend trip.
The Mint boasted 300 slot machines and a Keno game, as well as two dining areas, two bars, and a gift shop.
Milton Prell built The Mint in 1957, though it only lasted a short while. In 1959 it annexated Birdcage Casino next door and eventually was bought by Binion’s Horseshoe Casino which closed it down in 2009.
